Ryan Clancy is on his second tour with West Wing Writers, after having previously left the firm to join the Obama administration.
He most recently served as the lead speechwriter for U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, where he used his powers of persuasion to argue for the importance of patent protection to Chinese entrepreneurs; the urgency of clean energy investment at the Copenhagen Climate Conference; and the value of innovation and international trade at Chambers of Commerce across America.
Ryan also served as the campaign speechwriter for Vice President Joe Biden before the 2010 midterm elections, creating messaging to support Democratic gubernatorial, senatorial and congressional candidates.
During his earlier tenure with West Wing Writers, Ryan developed a particular expertise in energy and environmental issues, through his work for Fortune 50 CEOs, venture capitalists, actors, philanthropists and former members of Congress.
Prior to that, he wrote fundraising appeals for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee during the 2006 election cycle.
Ryan began his career at The Rosen Group — a New York City public relations firm — developing media outreach strategies primarily for clients in the magazine and publishing industries.
Over the years, Ryan’s work on behalf of clients has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, The Economist and Politico, and he has had commentary published in his own name in USA Today, the Chicago Tribune and various other outlets.
A graduate of Villanova University, Ryan lives in Arlington, Virginia, with his wife, Erika, and their cat, Cecil. |
