Casey Davis-Van Atta
Before he was a speechwriter, Casey was a scientist. As a researcher at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he spent years running experiments, advancing climate chemistry, and firing lasers into tubes filled with toxic gases. He sustained only minor injuries.
Casey shifted gears in 2010, leaving NASA to join the Obama administration. As a senior writer in the White House Correspondence Office, he helped craft messaging for almost every policy the President pursued, from equal pay to nuclear nonproliferation.
Following his time in the administration, Casey joined the global technology company Opower as its first chief speechwriter. In that role, he helped shape the clean energy conversation in America and abroad, and set the message for a startup as it prepared to go public on the New York Stock Exchange.
Today, Casey is a proud member of West Wing Writers’ San Francisco office, where he writes for tech leaders, philanthropists, and other visionary thinkers. He received a BA in Chemistry from Pomona College, graduating cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He lives in Oakland with his partner, Dawn.
