Casey Davis-Van Atta
Before he was a speechwriter, Casey was a scientist. As a researcher at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he ran experiments, advanced climate chemistry, and fired lasers into tubes filled with toxic gases. He sustained only minor injuries.
Casey shifted gears in 2010, leaving NASA to join the Obama administration. As a senior writer in the White House Correspondence Office, he helped craft messaging for almost every policy the President pursued, from equal pay to nuclear nonproliferation.
After his time in the administration, Casey joined the global technology company Opower as its first chief speechwriter. There, he helped shape the clean energy conversation in America and abroad, and set the message when Opower went public on the New York Stock Exchange.
Since he came to West Wing Writers in 2016, Casey has written for some of the most prominent voices in science, technology, public health, and philanthropy. He is a proud member of the firm’s San Francisco office, and holds a BA in Chemistry from Pomona College.
